Notes:
Commissioned by Colorado School of Mines for the Coorstek Science Building, Golden, Colorado
Concept:
Spanning two floors above the main stair in the Coorstek Science Center atrium, Cross Section connects multiple spaces — including a faculty conference room on the upper floor — with color, pattern, and shadow that change throughout the day due to an overhead skylight. The title and concept of the work refer to the patterns in nature found across all research disciplines in the building including biology, chemistry, physics, and material science. The ceramic elements were sourced from a local factory that produces technical ceramic parts for the space and aeronautics industries, highlighting an important local partner of the school.
